The Radio

The Radio is one of the most popular mass media in the world. Alost all people are familiar with it and mosr of them own one.

The radio is effective for distant communication. People get information about the world as soon as possible just by listening to the radio at home. They also find entertainment like drama, music, etc. on the radio.

They can also used the radio to send their family message. Radio is also good for saying hello to a friend or send other kinds of message justs as a social interaction. The radio is very important to the police, too. During emergencies where telephones not work and transportation is impossible using a radio will be very useful.

The radio has a very important role in the history of the Republic of Indonesia. The Radio of the Republic Indonesia, called RRI, was founded on september 11, 1845. The centrals studio and transmission facilities were in Jakarta. Since then, RRI look an important role in encouraging the Indonesian people to fight againt the Dutch. That is why the Dutch tried to destroy the RRI studio, and that is why the crew moved from one place to another. Today, besides RRI, the state-owned radio, there are a lot of private radio station. Both state-owned radio and private radio have four main programmes, namely news, entertainment, advertisement, and others.

The history of the radio begin with Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian expert at telegraph. In 1901 has succeeded in transmitting the Morse code signal for the letter S from Cornwall, England to Newfoundland across the Atkantic.
